Breeding Program
Prime cuts start with prime genetics.
Every carcass tells the truth about the herd behind it. That's why our breeding decisions start with the plate and work backwards.
Philosophy
We breed for the plate, not the scale.
Modern commercial hog breeding chases feed conversion and lean weight above all else. We don't. We breed hogs for pork that actually tastes like pork — deeply marbled, richly colored, and cooked forgiving.
Every replacement gilt and every herd sire is evaluated against the same question: will this animal make the next generation of pork better? If the answer isn't clearly yes, they don't stay in the program.
That standard is slow. It's also the reason our pork eats the way it does.
Foundation
Duroc-based genetics
Duroc is the breed the pork industry keeps coming back to for marbling and eating quality — and old-line Durocs, in particular, carry traits selected out of most modern commercial pigs. Our program leans on those heritage lines, blended and refined to fit our environment and feeding program.
What we select for
Six traits, no compromises.
Intramuscular marbling
We select sires and dams for the genetic tendency to lay down intramuscular fat. Marbling is what turns a pork chop into a great pork chop.
Deep red color
Old-line Duroc genetics deliver the dark, rich color the breed is named for — visible proof of a hog that was bred and raised properly.
Structural soundness
Feet, legs, and frame come first. A hog that can't move comfortably can't grow the way it should.
Maternal ability
Our sows are chosen for milking, mothering, and litter uniformity — quiet, capable mothers raise quiet, capable pigs.
Temperament
Calm animals stress less, eat better, and finish cleaner. We won't keep back an animal that isn't easy to handle.
Heritage lineage
Our program builds on old-line Duroc genetics — including bloodlines developed through Henry Fudge's decades of heritage breeding work.
